Book Review: Home Not A Country

Home Not A Country by Safia Elhillo This story is about an Arabic girl whose mother moves her to the U.S. and is written in a poetry style. This book was not made for me a white woman born in America, but I Still enjoy the message of this book and seeing the world from another point of view. Ni'ma our main character grows up in America hearing stories and songs from the old country and has an ache of wanting that and finds out her mom had another name picked out before she was born and keep thinking she should have been the other girl and different things after a friend was attacked and ends up in the hospital somehow Ni'ma goes back in time and learns some difficult things about her father who she idolized and learn that the only thing she needs is... well I'm not going to tell you if you want to know what she learns read the book. Overall I loved seeing the way Elhillo told this story and was able to get me to see through this young woman's eyes and feel not so much sorry for this young woman but a feeling of wanting to help this girl and wishing I was there to be this girl's friend. Even though this book is barely over 200 pages Ni'ma grows so much in this book and I'm going to have to look up this author's work because I find it amazing overall I gave it 4 stars out of 5 stars rating.
